Kid Kate

• Kate--Kathryn--is my middle name. I always liked Kate because it sounded strong. Think Taming of the Shrew (hmm, maybe that's a bad example)
• I will be 30 in 39 days, hence "kid" Kate (also, "Call me Kate" and "Kate, here" were taken). More on that later
• I got married on July 23, 2005 in Brewster, MA, on Cape Cod
• My husband and I live with two dogs, a 9-year-old dachshund/labrador named Simon and a 5-year-old beagle/blue tick coonhound (optimistic guess) named Mandy. They make life interesting and good
• I am from Texas but was raised by a couple of lefties (I am a lefty, too). I moved to New York 5 years ago
• Before I turn 30, I would like to:
  --volunteer for the ASPCA
  --become more athletic (no, seriously)
  --get checked by the gynecologist to make sure I'm all clear to have a baby
  --establish some nonwork-related form of writing
• So far I have:
  --called the ASPCA but not gotten through
  --started spinning classes at the gym
  --made an appointment with the gyno
  --started this blog

I'll let you know how it all pans out.

I owe, I owe...

I just realized that my credit card debt is now 10% of my annual salary. Ug. Wait till my husband reads this (I have not yet given him the link). For sanity's sake, we decided to keep separate but equal--that is, linked--checking accounts. The linking is for transparency but credit is a different story. He's one of those completely insane individuals who has never carried a balance, while I am one of those pathetic types whose spending really has increased with my salary. I could rationalize it a thousand different ways (need nicer clothes to go to the client, etc) but the truth is that it scares me, especially if we're going to think about a baby in the near future. The good news is that I still have stellar credit (just checked) and was able to consolodate it all for like, 2.9%. But still. Definitely on the to-do list.

I'll post later with a little more about me and the point of this blog, along with my to-do before 30 list, a work in progress. Countdown: 42 days.

Well, hello there

Apologies for not adding more to the profile. (I did include the two things I'm reasonable sure of, my age and my gender, though Blogger added the bit about my astrological sign and zodiac year. OK.) The other stuff requires a little more thought. Meantime, here's a picture. Actually, the best thing about this picture is the uncut version:



That's Jim. As adults, it seems that the only time we ever get our pictures taken is at weddings. I gave this picture to my parents since the last one they had of me was from high school, in which I was sporting sprayed bangs and a flute. They don't know who Jim is, so, alas, I cropped him out. (Jim is a friend of my husband. Photo was taken by said husband at aforementioned wedding.) Anyway.
